community large grant scheme

The Community Large Grant scheme is currently closed. The deadline for Stage Two applications was midnight on 1 January

what is the scheme?

The Community Large Grant scheme aims to create opportunities and build communities by funding projects that use football and sport as a force for social change. We fund projects that address social exclusion and inequalities in education and health.

can you apply?

We only fund organisations that are 'not for profit'. We do not fund individuals.

Applications from clubs will only be accepted from those based in England and/or affiliated to The Football Association. Applications from Wales will only be accepted if they are made through the Community Scheme attached to the club playing in the English Football League.

Applications that include partnership funding from the Football Pools Investment Committee will not be considered nor will applications for contributions to support Kickz projects.

What do we give money for?

We aim to support projects that:

  • generate new activity

  • use football and where appropriate other sports to focus on one of the following Foundation’s Community Programme Strategy objectives:

    • Preventing and reducing offending.

    • Promoting respect amongst communities and bringing people together through football.

    • Improving educational attainment and lifelong learning.

    • Encouraging personal development from participation in football and sport through to volunteering, training and employment.

    • Tackling the rise of obesity in children and adults.

    • Improving the mental health and wellbeing of children and adults.

    • Tackling regional health inequalities in life expectancy and chronic illness.

The Community Programme Strategy can be viewed by visiting our publications page

We do not fund:

  • statutory core business, although applications for Special Educational Needs (SEN) curriculum time activity are eligible

  • capital costs

  • one off events

  • retrospective costs or expenses

  • stand alone educational materials

  • projects with a total project cost of less than £10,000

How much money can we give you?

The maximum grant available is £150,000 for projects that last between one and three years.

The Foundation is only able to support a percentage of the total project cost. Percentage support is determined by need and will, therefore, vary. However, it will not exceed 90% of the total project costs.

Please note we can contribute to management costs but this contribution will not exceed 12.5 % of the total project cost.
