Help with your online application?

what is the scheme?

The community scheme aims to create opportunities and build communities by funding projects that use football and sport as a force for social change. We fund projects that address social exclusion and inequalities in education and health.

Can you apply?

We welcome applications from any not for profit organisation, football community schemes or Local Authorities.

Before you submit an application, we strongly recommend you fill in an expression of interest form. This will allow us to support you in developing a strong application.

Applications from football in the community schemes will only be accepted from clubs that are affiliated to the English Football League. Applications from Wales will only be accepted if they are made through the following Welsh Football in the Community Schemes:

  • Cardiff City

  • Colwyn Bay

  • Merthyr Tydfil

  • Newport County

  • Swansea City

  • Wrexham FC.

Individuals may not apply for community and education funding.

What do we give money for?

We aim to support projects that consider equality of access as part of their work. Projects must use football and sport to contribute to one of the following objectives:

  • Preventing and reducing offending.

  • Promoting respect amongst communities and bringing people together through football.

  • Improving educational attainment and lifelong learning.

  • Encouraging personal development from participation in football and sport through to volunteering, training and employment.

  • Tackling the rise of obesity in children and adults.

  • Improving the mental health and wellbeing of children and adults.

  • Tackling regional health inequalities in life expectancy and chronic illness.

How much money can we give you?

We will usually fund up to £250,000 for community and education projects that last between one to five years, but encourage those that last at least three years.

The Foundation is only able to support a percentage of the total project cost. Percentage support varies for each project and will be based upon a number of factors: the extent to which the project contributes to the Foundation's Community Strategy in terms of the target groups it will work with, the area it will work in, previous investment from the Foundation in the area and the community need it aims to address.

Applications must have a total project cost of £10,000 or more.

Applicants wishing to apply for under £10,000 must refer to the small grants scheme.

If you are unable to fill in the online application form we are able to send you a paper version in the post.
