We are pleased to announce Phase Two of the Extra Time programme. Phase Two will run from September 2010 – August 2013. There will be a minimum of five new grants available each year to five new club community schemes who wish to deliver a health and exercise programme for older people.
Club community schemes will be expected to engage older people in a physical activity and social activity programme and should encourage participants to include this as part of a wider physical activity programme. This should improve the health and wellbeing of this group and help to reduce the affects of isolation.
Objectives
The objectives for all applications are:
-
To increase the physical activity and social opportunities for the 60 plus age group. However, this could include people 55 and over if local need can be shown.
-
To provide a programme that improves muscle strength, balance and flexibility.
-
To increase older people’s interest and connections with the professional game.
-
To provide a programme that is socially interactive.
-
To increase awareness of risk factors associated with health issues such as cardiovascular disease, strokes and obesity and knowledge of local intervention programme available to combat these.
Project criteria
In order for applications to be eligible for funding, all community schemes must have the following in place:
-
That Premier League Community Schemes meet the PL / PFA Fit for Purpose criteria.
-
That Football League Community Schemes meet the Accreditation Standard criteria.
-
That the project delivers 30 weeks of physical and social activities.
-
That the local need for activity is established.
-
That the project objectives are met.
-
That there is appropriate experience in local coordinated community delivery.
-
That there is evidence of local community consultation with appropriate partners such as older peoples agencies and/or older people themselves.
-
That there is evidence of local partnership working with key partners in the community. A local steering group with key partners may be the vehicle to oversee the development of the project and work towards the programme objectives and long term sustainability. This may be a steering group that already exists but membership must reflect the key partners needed to develop this project.
Additionally, football club community schemes would be encouraged to build in sustainability of their programmes into their development plans.
Application process
The application window is currently closed.
