Youth football in England is enormously popular. There are over 55,000 teams and every weekend most players, coaches and referees have an enjoyable experience of the game. There are however occasions where instead of being positive and supportive some spectators fail to recognise that youth football is a time to learn the game and instead are aggressive, sarcastic and disrespectful. Some young players will imitate this adult behaviour whilst others will fail to fulfil their potential or choose - like some referees - to do something else with their time.
However the good news is that since the Respect programme was launched in 2008 the FA has identified a range of measures that tackle these raging touchline parents, educate young players and contribute to the positive and fun experience that we all want our children to have.
This Football Foundation scheme offers your club the opportunity to purchase Respect equipment which, if used effectively, will help us to promote the beautiful game. The scheme offers 50 % off the normal cost price of these items.
Funding window
The Respect scheme will be open from 21 August 2012 and will remain open until the funding has been used up.
March 2013 - item update
A new Respect Board has now been added to the 50% offer. This is available in 3 formats: a free-standing board for outdoor use, a board suitable for wall mounting and a moveable wall sticker. Discounts are available for Respect Boards in packs of 1 or 3, and will now be included as part of the updated small and large bundles.
Clubs that have already applied will be allocated an additional unit in order to take advantage of these new products.
April 2013 – item update
The Respect boards introduced in March 2013 are now also available with a sponsor’s logo printed on one side. This will give clubs the option of getting funding for Respect items from local business, in exchange for publicity via the Respect boards.
In order to take advantage of this offer, clubs should apply for a voucher from the Football Foundation in the usual way but sponsored boards must be purchased direct from the board suppliers at www.sportzhub.co.uk, quoting the FF voucher code.
Sponsored boards will cost a total of £100 each: £50 funded by the club/sponsor and £50 funded by a FF voucher.
