This year saw the truly stunning spectacles of the 2012
Olympic and Paralympic Games take place on our soil.
Questions have inevitably been asked about what the
legacy of the Games will be. One answer is the Mayor
of London: Facility Fund (MoL: FF), a sporting legacy
programme that the Foundation is proud to deliver
with funding from London Mayor, Boris Johnson, and
his Commissioner for Sport, Kate Hoey.
The overall aim of the MoL: FF is to raise
par ticipation levels in spor t in London through the
funding of spor ts facilities. Since 2010, a total of 77
grants wor th £5.5m have been awarded, helping to
develop affordable, good quality, multi-spor t sites
within local communities across the Capital.
“After the truly mesmerising show that
the Capital put on for the world in the
shape of the London 2012 Olympic and
Paralympic Games, I am delighted that
we have also created a lasting legacy
in the shape of a new inventory of
community sports sites.
“Our partnership with the Foundation,
who have done a superb job working
with my Commissioner for Sport, Kate
Hoey, has ensured that every single
London borough has benefited from new
or refurbished multi-sports sites for local
people to enjoy for decades to come.
“The Games at the elite level may
have finished; but they can continue at
the grassroots level for a whole new
generation of Londoners thanks to this
vital Olympic legacy.”
Boris Johnson, Mayor of London
