ALTRINCHAM FC ENJOY VASTLY IMPROVED PLAYING SURFACE THANKS TO NEW IRRIGATION SYSTEM Evo-Stik Northern Premier League side Altrincham FC were recipients of a £20,000 grant from the FSIF to improve the irrigation of their Moss Lane surface. The grant has also enabled them to purchase pitch maintenance equipment, which will help to maintain a higher standard of pitch over the course of the coming seasons. Additionally, the Greater Manchester side are now able to electronically control the automatic irrigation system without the need for manual watering, as was necessary previously. The new surface was broken in as Altrincham hosted a Manchester United FC XI in a pre- season friendly. The pitch will also be used by the Manchester United FC Under-18 team, but the Red Devils connection does not stop there. In February 2015, Sir Alex Ferguson CBE, visited the club to officially open their new £752,000 state-of-the-art community sports hall. The project was made possible thanks to a separate £114,880 FSIF grant and £269,470 from the Premier League &The FA Facilities Fund – the FSIF’s sister organisation. The club’s Community Director, Peter Foster, was delighted with the grant, saying:“The money we received from the FSIF went a long way to improving the standard of the pitch here at Moss Lane. Our groundsman had to hand- water every blade of grass here, as well as using a beaten up old mower that has been verging on breakdown for a while!” Long standing supporter John Henderson, said:“The playing surface at the J Davidson Stadium has improved year-on-year, thanks to the improved drainage and state-of-the-art sprinkler system. This has provided us with a superb surface for the players to showcase their talents on and will be a great help to the club in their bid for promotion.A big thank you must go to the Premier League for the grant that made all this possible.” “THE MONEY WE RECEIVED FROM THE FSIF WENT A LONG WAY TO IMPROVING THE STANDARD OF THE PITCH HERE AT MOSS LANE.” PETER FOSTER, COMMUNITY DIRECTOR TEAM: ALTRINCHAM FC LOCATION: MOSS LANE FSIF GRANT: £20,000
