ShrewsburyTown in the Community (STITC) – a community development programme from the club of the same name – received a £14,843 grant from the Premier League Fans Fund, which has been used to develop the ShrewsburyTown Fan Zone. The project is designed to bring together different supporter groups on a bi-monthly basis, to provide new opportunities for a wide range of existing and potential new supporters of ShrewsburyTown FC. The Fan Zone provides an area for fans to socialise before games. Pre-match initiatives so far include live music, food and drink, as well as video game tournaments for younger supporters. Local Shrew, Simon Moore, described the initiative as:“A fantastic idea. Fair play to the Premier League for funding it too.The new Fan Zone means I can meet up with my mates and other like-minded fans pre-match, which creates a great atmosphere around the ground – I love it.” By developing a regular supporter engagement platform, this has allowed the club to increase the number of ShrewsburyTown supporters, whilst improving the atmosphere and enjoyment of current fans at the club’s New Meadow ground. Jamie Edwards, Community Manager at ShrewsburyTown in the Community, said:“The introduction of the FanZone at ShrewsburyTown has been fantastic for our club and its supporters. The delivery of the FanZone project was reliant on funding from the Premier League, through the Fans Fund – the project would have been impossible without those resources.” “ THE INTRODUCTION OF THE FANZONE AT SHREWSBURY TOWN HAS BEEN FANTASTIC FOR OUR CLUB AND ITS SUPPORTERS.” JAMIE EDWARDS, COMMUNITY MANAGER SHREWSBURY TOWN LAUNCHES NEW SUPPORTER ENGAGEMENT INITIATIVE
