The Foundation has been proudly working in partnership with The Greater London Authority on
delivering the Mayor of London: Facility Fund (MoL:FF).The Fund is part of the Mayor, Boris Johnson’s,
commitment to deliver a sporting legacy from the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Every London Borough right across the Capital will benefit from new or refurbished sports facilities
thanks to this Fund, meaning the Games will live on long after the final medal was handed out!
To give you a taster, here are three examples of new facilities that have already been built thanks to the
Mayor’s money…
Indoor sports
boost for East
A MoL:FF grant enabled the University of East London (UEL)
to develop and build a second indoor spor ts arena.
This facility has become home to three national league sports
clubs: Newham All Stars Spor ts Academy, Genesis Futsal Club
and Great Dane Handball Club. These clubs develop their
spor ts from grassroots, through to performance levels and
now host their competitive league and cup competitions.
David Cosford, Director of UEL Spor ts, said:
figures across the centre have been excellent with up to 100
people using the sports arena per day. These figures are set
to soar at the start of the new academic year.”
UEL also host several large spor ts events from the UK Police
basketball finals, the Michael Jordan Classic basketball event,
and the London Badminton Bonanza. This summer, the centre
closed so the University could host the US Olympic team.
In addition, the University also plays host to several school and
college sessions as par t of a wider Borough initiative called
‘Every Child a Spor ts Person’.
Our new academic year
will enable us to bring the
best ever programme to
our students and it is, in
large, part testament to
the funding we received.”
