Words from the CEO,
Paul Thorogood
Welcome to the 30th Issue of ONSIDE, the
magazine that provides a snapshot of what
the Football Foundation is doing in support
of the grassroots of our national game.
This is the busiest year for football that I can
remember. Following The FA Cup final and
nail-biting conclusion of the Premier League,
Chelsea triumphed in the Champions League,
England competed in Euro 2012 and Team
GB fielded historic Olympic and Paralympic
football teams.
Now the work to develop the next
generation of facilities and footballers
moves up a gear to ensure that we can
meet the ever increasing demand for quality
community spor ts facilities.
As par t of this, we are proud to be delivering
the infrastructure element of The FA’s exciting
revolution in how youth football is played
through small-sided games. This will not only
make for more accessible and enjoyable
football for youngsters, but will also help to
produce more skilful young players for the
future.
The Football Stadia Improvement Fund,
which is financed entirely by the Premier
League, has increased the percentage of a
project that its funding will support. This is
impor tant news for lower-level clubs that are
looking for financial suppor t for work that
needs to be carried out at their grounds.
Over the past 12 years the Foundation has
funded thousands of new facilities, which are
enabling more people to take up spor t and
enjoy a better experience.
Our sincere thanks go to the Premier League,
The FA and Government (via Spor t England)
for their continued and unwavering suppor t
over this time.
I hope that you enjoy reading this Issue
of ONSIDE.
