Sky News and talkSPORT presenter,
Georgie Bingham, made her first trip
out to see a Foundation project take
shape recently.
The Suffolk girl presented a Foundation
cheque for £306,216 to Kesgrave High
School, just 20 minutes from where she
grew up.The money will enable the school
to build a new floodlit third generation
artificial grass pitch.
Speaking at the start-of-works launch,
Georgie said:
“Dreams are made on
the football pitch at grassroots level.
Grassroots is where people develop their
love for the game.
“The health and fitness of our future
generations, as well as the creation of
great sportsmen and footballers, is down
to investment from the likes of the
Foundation at the grassroots.
“If they didn’t exist there would be a
lack of artificial pitches for use in the
community and for schools. If you don’t
have the facilities for kids to go to football
clubs and to grow their love for the
game, then we won’t have a nation of
improving footballers.”
Since the Foundation was set up in 2000, it
has worked closely with the Suffolk County
FA to support 132 grassroots sports
projects across the county, with grants
worth £6m.These grants have attracted
further partnership funding of £7.6m into
the area’s grassroots.
Cath Breckell, Deputy Headteacher at
Kesgrave High School, added:
“It is fantastic
that the Premier League,The FA and
Government provide money through the
Foundation for projects like ours.”
