Who has the project engaged?
The facility supported Cornwall FA’s plan to
develop an Under 18 league who use the site
for fixtures. Cornwall FA has delivered two
Coach Education awards at Mounts Bay, an
FA Level 1 Coaching Award and an FA Age
Appropriate Award.
Mounts Bay Football Development Centre
(MBFDC) has a team of five enthusiastic Football
Coaches. There are five pupils volunteering at
MBFDC and four pupils are on The FA Football
Futures programme, which is an accredited
scheme developing young leaders; these
are mentored by Kevin Lawrence, Football
Development Officer.These young leaders have
voluntarily worked on the football programmes
and two pupils have gone on to gain The FA Level
1 Coaching Award, and will be looking at future
employment at the Centre.
Holiday Courses are also offered at the MBFDC
every half-term; sessions with 4–14 year olds
attracted 45 users, while Monday evening school
sessions have 47 attendees. This programme is
part of the Cornwall FA Development Pathway.
MBFDC also delivers many Government initiatives
and The FA Mars Just Play programme.

the wider community?
The new floodlit third generation artificial grass
pitch has meant an increase of 36 teams using the
site across men’s, women’s and disabled football,
as well as a new female five-a-side league. Both a
new Mini-Soccer centre and Mini-Soccer football
club were established for young people who do
not already play in local clubs.
The facility supports the inclusion projects
at Penzance and St Ives which had previously
been funded by the Foundation’s old
Community Scheme.
Mounts Bay School currently runs a sports
centre which is used by the community, as well
as acting as a training base for the Cornwall FA,
the new facility will also be part of the Cornwall
FA development centre programme which is
delivered in conjunction with Cornwall Schools
FA and Plymouth Argyle FC.
