These aims are achieved with the help of other football stakeholders who receive money from the Fund, which is delivered through the FSIF. As well as awarding grants of up to £20,000 to local fan groups, the Fund also gives money to several other members of the football family to allow them to carry out their vital work. These include: The Football Supporters Federation, Kick It Out, Level Playing Field, Pride Sports and Supporters Direct. T he Carlisle United Official Supporters Club benefitted from a £10,000 grant after severe flooding during Storm Desmond in December 2015 left their Brunton Park stadium under several feet of water. As a result, the team had no choice but to play at alternative venues miles away from their home. In fact, the Cumbrians had three ‘home away from home’ games – one at Preston’s Deepdale, one at Blackburn’s Ewood Park and one at Blackpool’s Bloomfield Road. The Fans Fund grant allowed the Supporters Club to provide travel to those fans who wanted to watch the matches, with a remarkable 3,000-plus supporters attending each match. Founded in 2001, the Carlisle United Official Supporters Club gives supporters a voice on club matters. Growing from 300 to now some 1,600 members since its inception, the Supporters Club has a 25% shareholding in the club itself, which gives them a seat on the Board. Norman Steel, who was Chairman of the Supporters Club for ten years, said: “The £10,000 grant from the Premier League Fans Fund allowed us to take over 3,000 supporters to each of the three games, some of which were more than 100 miles away, which is a truly incredible effort. “The Carlisle United Official Supporters Club would like to thank everyone at the Premier League Fans Fund for their grant and everyone involved who helped provide support to our great club. Helping the fans get to the game was vital to the support of the team, especially in their time of need.” SUPPORTERS RALLY TO WEATHER STORM DESMOND The efforts of the Carlisle United Official Supporters Trust helped fans watch games away from Brunton Park. “The £10,000 grant from the Premier League Fans Fund allowed us to take over 3,000 supporters to each of the three games.” Norman Steel Carlisle United Official Supporters Trust
