onsıde| ISSUE 39 PREMIER LEAGUE PRIMARY STARS 28 A range of completely free downloadable teaching materials, covering subjects from English and Maths to teamwork and PE, are available to every primary school in England and Wales. The huge array of activity ideas – worksheets, lesson plans, fun assemblies and exclusive videos – are linked to the national curriculum and are specifically designed to inspire girls and boys aged 5-11 in the classroom, the playground and on the sports field. Many of the resultant sports lessons will take place on facilities delivered by the Football Foundation. Competitions range from national football tournaments, to creative writing and reading challenges for reluctant readers. Many of these sessions will be delivered at sites developed with Football Foundation grants. For example, the Burton Albion Community Trust are delivering their Premier League Primary Stars programme from the new facility recently opened by England boss Gareth Southgate (read more about this on page 12.) Richard Scudamore, the Premier League’s Executive Chairman and Trustee of the Football Foundation since its inception, said at the scheme’s launch, “We are very excited to launch Premier League Primary Stars, our new national education programme that will use the power and popularity of football to inspire children to work hard and enjoy English, Maths and a range of other subjects.” 1 2 3 4
