Goals! uses the positive image of football and Southend United to equip and support young people aged 14 to 18 make positive choices around the issues of self awareness, esteem, friends, community and career.

What are the long term benefits of the project on the community?

Local young people attending Goals! benefit the community by having increased self esteem, higher than  expected qualifications thereby having a greater chance of finding meaningful employment. Participants have gone onto volunteer at other Trust programmes such as Kickz, and mentoring young people at risk of causing crime or anti social behaviour.

Tell us about the positive affect on individuals

Goals! has improved the expected GCSE pass rate of over 85% of participants. School attendance amongst participants has improved to 100% in most cases.

How has the Foundation's funding made a significant positive difference?

Foundation funding has levered in additional funding to the project of over £100,000. It has also led to the creation of new partnerships between local support agencies with the result of greater cohesion in the community. Over 360 young people have benefited from the project to date.
