What are the long term benefits of the project on the community?

The project has enabled young people to attend after school and weekend programmes offering sport, food and nutrition and social inclusion, which otherwise they would not of had. The project is run from a secure location so they and their parents can be safe in the knowledge of where they are and who they are with, not hanging around on the streets. All young people attending have opportunities to gain FA qualifications, which can enable them to further their education and go into football coaching. They can learn about healthy eating and other social inclusion subjects helping them in their understanding about communities and engaging with people from different backgrounds. The courses helps them with their self confidence and understanding of working together as a group or team. They have an option of entering into further education, volunteering opportunities or working for the Academy as a coach, therefore giving back to their community.

"I feel the project has been a complete success. We have engaged during the projects time with over 350 young people via the after school, weekend, and holiday projects. Over 250 attended our yearly football tournament. We have had over 30 young people gain their Level 1 coaching badges, enabling them to gain employment or volunteering opportunities. I hope just hope that we will be in a position to sustain the project, otherwise it would be a great loss to the local community and the young people."

"By attending the Football Foundation project I have gained four coaching qualifications and am working on another. I have learnt many things like healthy eating recipes which help me and my family, I have learned about basic first aid an child protection. I have also learned about being part of a community and the role I can play as a positive role model to my peers and younger kids. I go to college and also help out at the academy because of the coaching qualifications I have achieved. I hope to further my career and eventually become a full time football coach."
