On Thursday 26 January 2012, Alan Pardew opened the new sports pavilion at Gateshead Redheugh 1957 FC.
The new state-of-the-art six-team changing pavilion replaces the previous dilapidated clubhouse at Eslington Park, as part of £761,000 project, managed by Four Housing Group and Gateshead Redheugh 1957 FC.
The new facility will cater for the 17 teams operated by Gateshead Redheugh FC and allow the club to increase football participation in the future. The facility will also be open on daily basis for members of the local community.
Gateshead Redheugh FC has nurtured a host of international players, with Paul Gascoigne, Don Hutchinson, Craig Harrison and most recently Andy Carroll.
Alan Pardew commented about the new pavilion:
"It will ensure the youngsters from the local area enjoy their football and will also be a base to deliver community work that will make a real difference to people’s lives.
“The professional game needs talent to be continually generated at the grassroots level so it is important that investment like this continues to go into community sports sites like this to give children the best possible chance to develop."
