On Sunday September 4 2011 Reeth and District Community Sports Club held the official opening of their brand new pavilion and Multi Use Games Area (MUGA). The day had everything from sunshine, football tournaments to Reeth’s own Brass Band to entertain the local audience.
The new pavilion will provide Reeth AFC, 2 Dale Juniors FC and Dales Cricket Club with modern purpose built changing rooms, showers and club room, while the MUGA will allow for training and practise sessions all year round. Additional sports have already been introduced on the MUGA, including tennis and carpet bowls. The project was funded with the help of a £344,000 grant from the Football.
The site was opened to the public from 11.30am and it was a chance for the community of Reeth to see what improvements had been made to the previous club house and surrounding land.
As the crowds started to gather and VIPs arrived the official proceedings began, lead by Derek Pollard. There were speeches by a number of those that were involved in the project including Len Scott County Chairman for North Riding FA, Ralph Porter Chairman of the Development Committee, Mr R.W. Miller and Gareth Southgate even popped in to say a few words. The most moving moment came when the crowd were lead into a minutes silence to remember David Hutchinson who sadly passed away a week earlier and was instrumental in getting the project up and running.
The day was a complete success and thoroughly enjoyed by all that attended! To see some photos from the day click on our album below.
