Brighter future for supporters of Merseyside club

The Football Stadia Improvement Fund (FSIF), supporters of the Football Foundation, and the largest funder of non league football in the country, today announced a grant of £35,355 to Marine Football Club, members of the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League.

This award will enable Marine FC to install a new floodlighting system, replacing the existing unreliable lights that are 35 years old. The new four corner floodlights incorporate the latest design and technology benefits with a significant improvement in lighting performance and reliability.

The new system will enable Marine FC to meet ground grading requirements and maintain their membership of the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League, as well as continuing to provide floodlit coaching sessions for the local community.

Funded with £6m each year from the Premier League, the FSIF is the country’s largest provider of grants towards projects that help improve the comfort and safety of lower league football grounds in both the professional and amateur game. These improvements range from new football stands and turnstiles to floodlighting and improved provision for disabled supporters.

Paul Leary, Chairman of Marine FC, said: “Marine Football Club is delighted to have received this latest grant from the Football Stadia Improvement Fund towards our desperately needed new floodlights. This is a significant award representing 50% of the cost of the project and this has enabled the club to place an order with the preferred contractor and commence work very shortly.”

Paul Thorogood, Chief Executive of the Football Stadia Improvement Fund, said: “On behalf of the Football Stadia Improvement Fund I am delighted to be able to award this grant to Marine FC towards their new floodlights.

“FSIF staff work hard to make sure that the funding that is generously provided by the Premier League each year goes as far as possible and benefits as many clubs and supporters as it possible can.”
