Rt Hon David Davis MP unveils sports pavilion

Holme1

Rt Hon David Davis, MP for Haltemprice and Howden, has officially opened a refurbished pavilion at Holme Village Hall, funded by the Football Foundation.

The sports pavilion was built in 1985 and is home to Holme Rovers Football Club. The project has modernised the facility, which was suffering from safety and welfare issues, and will reduce utility costs through the installation of solar thermal heating for the shower facilities. It will also provide additional storage space for sporting equipment.

The club worked in partnership with the East Riding FA to secure a £31,686 grant from the Football Foundation. Funded by the Premier League, The FA, and the Government (via Sport England), the Football Foundation is the country’s largest sports charity. Since it was launched in 2000, the Foundation has awarded around 8,000 grants worth more than £420m towards improving grassroots sport, which it has used to attract additional partnership funding of over £520m.

David Davis, MP for Haltemprice and Howden, said “I am delighted to see the transformation that has taken place to the Holme Village sports pavilion. This will ensure that the local community have access to first class football facilities for the foreseeable future.

“Sport is an important element of community life and can help address many of society's challenges, including health, anti-social behaviour and personal development.

“I would like to thank all the partners that have funded to this project, including the Football Foundation which is are doing a tremendous job at improving communities up and down the country by investing money they receive from the Premier League, The FA and the Government, via Sport England.”

Paul Thorogood, Chief Executive of the Football Foundation, said: “This facility underlines the commitment the Football Foundation has to improving community access to quality local football facilities across the country. I congratulate everyone at Holme Village Hall and the East Riding FA for working tirelessly to make this vision become a reality.

“The Football Foundation is dedicated, with funding provided from the Premier League, The FA and government, to raising the standard of grassroots community sports facilities and to getting more people actively playing the national sport.”
