Funding Hat-Trick for Merseyside Football - £708,582 Payout For Liverpool Football Projects
press release
Following a highly successful week for football on Merseyside there is cause for further celebration with a massive new investment programme for the grass roots game by the Football Foundation.

The latest round of funding has awarded £583,050 to the City Council for a complete redevelopment of the William Collins Playing Fields, in Vauxhall. The project will double the number of pitches currently in use (3 junior and 1 senior) and will make a significant contribution to increasing provision of pitches in the area. In addition the scheme will also make a major contribution to implementing the city’s strategy for sport. By providing well maintained and completely refurbished changing rooms as part of the package it is hoped the new complex will encourage participation by women and girls and also meet the needs of disabled users.

In addition The NACRO Positive Futures Programme, a scheme aimed at offering young people a new start, has received a £121,532 Football Foundation grant to develop a grass roots football programme in Liverpool.

The Liverpool Project, based in the Kensington area of the city, aims to tackle youth crime (currently twice the average rate as Liverpool as a whole) and anti social behaviour by using sport, particularly football, to engage young people in positive activities and offer direction to those most at risk.

Key activities will include increasing the number of young people accessing training and qualifications in sport, improving the personal, social skills and the self-esteem of participants as well as the promotion of a healthy lifestyle.

These awards follow a previous grant of £126,200 to the Stanley House Youth Academy in Liverpool which enabled the organisation to fund a football development programme, addressing the issues of social exclusion among young people in the Toxteth/Granby area of Liverpool.
