LONDON FOOTBALL GETS £900,000 NEW YEAR BONUS
press release
Grass roots and community football got a £900,000 boost today following the latest funding wave from the Football Foundation.

Clubs, schools and organisations started the New Year in style, from Greenwich to Buckhurst Hill footballers celebrated their success.

The London Playing Fields Society, an organisation dedicated to saving the capitals open spaces from commercial development and providing affordable sport for Londoners, has received a massive £601,579 cash boost to build a modern sports complex at the Marathon Playing Fields site in Greenwich, to fund a women’s football development officer in the area and to continue their Nation’s Football Festival programme, offering football tournaments and education courses to refugees in London.

Feltham Community College are also the recipients of £160,000 to refurbish existing artificial pitches whilst Buckhurst Hill Junior Sports Club received an extra £116,546 boost, on top of a previous £174,000 Foundation grant last year, to provide a modern sports complex in Epping Forest.

This latest funding tranche takes total spending in London over £3m with further projects worth £5m currently under consideration.

The Foundation is dedicated to revitalising the grass roots of the game, constructing modern football facilities, developing football as a force for social cohesion and as a vehicle for education in communities throughout the country. Funded by the FA Premier League, The Football Association, Sport England and the Government, the Football Foundation is the nation’s largest sports charity with a £53m budget directed into the very heart of football.

Welcoming these latest grants Foundation Chief Executive Peter Lee said: “Unprecedented amounts of funding are now bringing modern football facilities and community schemes to the people of London. Football has much more to offer than 90 minutes enjoyment on a Saturday afternoon and these awards reflect the many benefits that the game can offer communities throughout London.”
