WALKER GET FOOTBALL PROJECT UP AND RUNNING
NORTH EAST TEAM SCORE £100,000 FOOTBALL GRANT
Northern Football Alliance League team Walker Central FC have been awarded £97,408 by the Football Foundation, the UK’s largest sports charity. The grant will allow the club to fund a pitch drainage system to their pitch and extend their training area to incorporate a mini soccer pitch and to erect fencing around the area.

The Club runs fourteen teams ranging from senior men’s squad to a girls youth team, however all these teams currently have only two pitches on which to play and during periods of bad weather both of these have recently become unplayable.

The Football Foundation has already invested £2.5 million in the North East funding eight football and community projects.

Since its inception the club has become a focal point for football opportunities in the local and surrounding communities and the club hope to use their new facilities to attract more teams to the club, particularly to expand opportunities for junior girl teams and for local schools.

The Foundation is dedicated to revitalising the grass roots of the game, constructing modern football facilities, developing football as a force for social cohesion and as a vehicle for education in communities throughout the country. Funded by the FA Premier League, The Football Association, Sport England and the Government, the Football Foundation is the nation’s largest sports charity with a £53m budget going straight into the very heart of football.

Lord Pendry, Chairman of the Football Foundation, welcomed this latest award
“Community clubs hold the key to the long term future of football. By creating these new facilities Walker Central are paving the way for many other clubs to follow. The new sports complex will greatly benefit both the club and more importantly the community they serve. The club will soon have facilities that will rival any in the area and we at the Foundation wish them the very best of luck for the future. ”
