Apprentices on Charlton Athletic's Community Trust (CACT) Sports Coaching Programme attended a hands-on Money Skills workshop at the Barclays Spaces for Sports Flagship site with the help and professional advice from ten members of Barclays staff.
The Barclays team went into the community and met CACT apprentices between the ages of 16 – 19 at the Charlton Barclays Spaces for Sports Flagship site in Sparrows Lane. The programme covers a wide range of activities to equip the students with qualifications and key skills including: Football Association Level 1 course, NVQ Level 2 in Activity Leadership, NVQ Level 2 in Key Skills, Level 2 Employment Awareness and a general Sports Study Level 2 Programme.
In the UK Barclays has delivered 200 physical sports sites across many disadvantaged areas through a successful partnership with the Football Foundation.
Barclays Spaces for Sports has invested £600,000 into developing the artificial pitch along with installing floodlights at Sparrows Lane and has maintained a close relationship with CACT ever since.
Using sport as the platform, Barclays Spaces for Sports engages communities to deliver an important range of life and employment skills. The interactive Barclays Money Skills sessions allow young people to build the skills, knowledge and confidence they need to manage their money more effectively.
Jack Willows, aged 19, an apprentice who attended the session said: “The workshops were really interesting and we learnt a lot about loans, credit cards and how to budget. I am definitely going to plan and budget weekly and try not to overspend.”
Kathy Smart, Head of Business Support and Communications said, “We would like to thank the team from Barclays for giving their time, valuable advice and help educating our apprentices in financial literacy. Helping to equip the young people with life-skills is an important part of this programme.”
