National Occupational Standards for Tackling Crime through Sport
Consultation
January / February 2010
London Active Communities and the Active Communities Network are running a three year project, funded by Laureus, the international sport for good charity, to examine the use of sport to tackle gang membership, crime, and anti-social behaviour. The outcomes of this project will inform and enhance qualifications for the UK workforce and will be used by Laureus to train their workforce internationally.
SkillsActive, the Sector Skills Council for Sport and Active Leisure is working with a range of partners across the sector and a steering group of industry experts, including the Football Foundation, to develop national occupational standards for using sport to tackle crime. This work has now progressed to a stage where a draft suite of national occupational standards (NOS) for tackling crime through sport is available. NOS can be used for qualification development, job roles, and development in employment. Through a major consultation event on Friday 19th February 2010 at London South Bank University in London, and an online consultation questionnaire SkillsActive are looking for feedback to help to ensure the standards meet the future needs of the sector.
