A three-year £2m cash injection from The Rank Foundation is set to transform the lives of some of Dundee’s most vulnerable people. The Rank Foundation is one of the country’s leading charitable trusts and this investment is their largest funding commitment ever in the UK.
21 of Dundee’s social improvement projects will take a share of the funding and Upshot, the online application developed by the Football Foundation to manage community projects, has been chosen to evaluate the scheme’s effectiveness after Rank selected them to oversee the project for the next three years.
The Football Foundation already works with Rank on their Hull Community Development Programme which aims to address prevailing issues in the City by building better communities, creating diversionary activities, encouraging enterprise and developing restorative practice.
Over 400 other organisations have adopted Upshot since its launch nearly three years ago and Rank is joined by other large organisations such as the Rugby Football League, National Autistic Society, Nordoff Robbins and various local authorities in tasking Upshot with evaluating their programmes.
The £2m investment, which will be celebrated at a Civic Reception on Wednesday 24 June at 7pm at Dundee City Chambers, will be split between charities and social enterprises with a focus on leadership, enterprise and care – the core aims of The Rank Foundation.
David Sanderson, CEO, The Rank Foundation, said: “We are delighted to extend our partnership with Upshot from working with community projects in Hull over the last three years to supporting social ventures in Dundee over the next three years.
“By working together, collaborating and sharing knowledge and good practice, Upshot will assist enormously in demonstrating the collective impact of the Dundee Programme.”
Duncan Jones, Head of Development for Upshot, said: “We are hugely excited about working with Rank on this project as they deliver exceptional work which has a positive impact on our society.
“Over the next three years Upshot will bring a wealth of knowledge and experience when it comes to measuring the success of the £2m investment, giving Rank the clearest indication they have ever had on how their money is building capacity, improving connectivity and strengthening partnerships in the City of Dundee.”
