Grassroots sport in Norfolk hasreceived a significant boost today following the news that Heacham Club Charity have received a grant of £196,000 from the Football Foundation, the country’s largest sports charity.
The funding will allow Heacham Football Clubs to enjoy up-to-date facilities and will benefit village sports by enabling local teams to compete in County and Regional Leagues which will support and inspire all sports participants, their supporters and visitors in the wide variety of sports currently provided, particularly football. The project will be wholly managed by Heacham Club Charity as is their sports remit.
The new sports pavilion will comprise of: a stand alone building housing purpose-built and the highest grade facilities for four football teams and officials. The existing 1970’s pavilion is to be redeveloped to provide upgraded toilets and showers, kitchen facilities and a much enlarged community space.
Funded by the Premier League, The FA, and the Government (via Sport England), the Football Foundation is the country’s largest sports charity. Since it was launched in 2000, the Foundation has awarded around 8,000 grants worth more than £420m towards improving grassroots sport, which it has used to attract additional partnership funding of over £520m.
Geoff Robinson, Heacham Club Chairman, said: “We are delighted to have secured this incredible funding through Football Foundation which means that we are able to offer not only our footballers, but members of Heacham village and wider community the first class facilities they deserve.
“This major improvement will greatly enhance the superb facilities already provided by Heacham Club Charity and will help to encourage more people of all ages to regularly participate in sport.
“We are so grateful to have been awarded this funding from Football Foundation as it enables us to pursue our ambition of developing sport of all forms for all age groups in the community. It will provide Heacham with a wonderful football legacy.”
“The help and support from the Norfolk FA and Football Foundation themselves has been immense and without their encouragement and input, the project would never have reached fruition.”
Paul Thorogood, Chief Executive of the Football Foundation, said: “Heacham Club Charity have worked diligently in partnership with the Norfolk FA to secure this funding, and I am thrilled to see their hard work rewarded.
“The Football Foundation is committed to supporting projects like this across the country with money generously provided by the Premier League, The FA and the Government (via Sport England), who have been our core funders since 2000.”
