Communicating for Success uses the popularity of football to help tackle 'digital exclusion' by improving technology and communication skills in the UK.
The initiative, created and funded jointly by BT and the Football Foundation, is helping people of all ages connect with the ‘digital society’.
It does this by making learning more accessible through links with football and other sports.
Everyone who takes part will have the opportunity to improve technology skills and increase their educational achievements, while also being encouraged to participate in sporting activities through playing, training and coaching.
Communicating for Success builds on the successful Playing for Success education programme, run by the Department for Children, Schools and Families and a number of partners, including the Football Foundation and the Premier League.
This programme established study support centres within sports clubs and sporting venues across England. These centres help young people, mainly aged 10-14, to improve their literacy, numeracy and technology skills and raise educational attainment.
Some of these centres are also at the heart of Communicating for Success. In addition, local volunteers from BT will join the teaching staff based at the centres and the coaches from the Clubs’ community schemes, to help with mentoring, coaching and support of the activities.
