Inside Right - Information for Health Professionals/Welfare officers

Inside Right is a new programme for Young Service Veterans.

 

Using the hook of football and appeal of professional football clubs, Inside Right aims to reach isolated young ex-servicemen and women, aged between 20-50, improve individual’s mental health and wellbeing, and provide access to on-going support and services.

 

Inside Right is a three-year pilot, which will initially be delivered in five clubs: Chelsea, Colchester, Everton, Lincoln and Portsmouth.

Background

Inside Right is a unique partnership. The funders are The Football Foundation, The Royal British Legion, Comic Relief, The Ministry of Defence, ABF The Soldier’s Charity and the RAF Benevolent Fund. The Mental Health Foundation, The Royal British Legion, The Everton Foundation, the Ministry of Defence and Combat Stress form the Central Steering Group.
 

The Royal British Legion, The Mental Health Foundation, The Everton Foundation, The Ministry of Defence and Combat Stress are Inside Right partners with the Football Foundation.

Inside Right Objectives

  • To increase the physical activity and social opportunities for younger veterans who are either vulnerable, isolated, suffering from mental health issues, long term unemployed and on low income.
     

  • To provide a programme that offers veterans the ability to access mental health support within an informal setting.
     

  • To provide signposting and support to access other mainstream mental health services and other statutory services.
     

  • To reduce the isolation affecting a number of veterans through a programme of social activities focused around the football club.  This could include attendance at matches, social events, meeting players.
     

  • To provide clear baseline information about the mental health of young veterans (ex-servicemen and women) and to show through clear evaluation the impact that physical activity can have on mental health issues.
     

  • To offer veterans access to training qualifications, and volunteering roles.
     

  • To raise awareness of the array of veterans support services available and assist with accessing these services.
