The art of football!
Kids from the Kickz Projects in Sharrow and Broomhall have teamed up with local artist Casper Carr, to paint an arty mural on the wall of Sheffield United’s VisitMalta.com Family Stand.
As part of the club’s ‘one game, one community’ activities, the idea came from workshops with young people involved with Kickz, who represent the diversity of all groups involved in football.
Blades players Matt Kilgallon, Ian Bennett and Keith Treacy also helped paint the mural, which has been funded by Football Against Racism in Europe (FARE) and Kickz.
Sue Beeley, head of community at Sheffield United, said: “The Blades are always looking for new ways of promoting the equality and diversity in football to the local community.
“When the kids came up with idea of painting a mural we thought it was a really innovative suggestion. Caricatures, landmarks of Sheffield and football have all been linked together for a piece of art which we feel captures the messages of ‘one game, one community’.
“Our thanks also go to Casper Carr for getting involved and assisting the kids with their brush strokes, his help and advice have really made the mural a big success!”
Casper Carr, from Fir Vale, set up a thriving creative business in Sheffield following the loss of a friend five years ago.
Casper, who has taken his art work main stream, specialises in glow in the dark spray paint, and works locally across Sheffield with several artists in residence and schools where he helps students to develop their GCSE sketch books.
