Be A Sport

An education, football participation, health promotion and social inclusion project, comprising three activity strands:

‘Shoot’ takes place over a 27 week period.  Two 2 hour sessions are delivered during the evening/at weekends.  The project targets 8-16 year old to increase participation in football related sports sessions.

‘Get on through Active Learning’ (GOAL) is aimed at 9-12 year olds.  Programme sessions, which are held weekdays after-school, offer a range of both sporting and educational activity.  Participants are selected through school referral, each young person attending one session a week for eight weeks.  Three eight week blocks are held during the academic year.

‘Play Your Part’ is a structured programme of multi-sports coaching and training delivered in local primary, secondary and special schools.  The programme includes sessions offered exclusively for girls, with female coaching staff, which will provide development links to further opportunities in sport including the Blackburn Rovers Girls’ Centre of Excellence.

‘On Side’ is a preventative, six week referral programme to support young people aged 11-14 years who are considered ‘at risk of offending.’  Designed to highlight the importance of making the right life choices, whilst at the same time raising aspirations and building confidence and motivation, participants are given insight into the reality of the life of a ‘young offender’.

‘Kick Off’ is a six week programme for young people aged 16-18 following the Entry to Employment (E2E) programme.  Working in partnership with local colleges, the young people attend Ewood Park one day a week, developing job application techniques, teambuilding skills and raising personal aspirations.
