Football Foundation - football's biggest supporter
.

manchester united foundation

Manchester United Foundation was formed to celebrate 50 years of the Club playing in Europe.  It aims to use the passion for Manchester United to educate, motivate and inspire young people to build a better life for themselves and improve the communities they live in.  The Foundation delivers football coaching, skills training, personal development and life changing experiences, providing young people with opportunities to change their lives for the better.  Through football, we encourage young people to develop as players and more importantly as people.

Our work to benefit communities and improve the lives of young people is delivered through:

  • innovative and educational programmes

  • promoting a greater understanding of social issues through education

  • developing unique and relevant partnerships.

Our goal is to educate, motivate and inspire future generations to build better communities for all.

A major success of the Foundation’s work with young people is the schools football service.  The Foundation has worked with over 200 schools and 38,000 children this academic year delivering a free service to children in Trafford, Salford and Manchester.  The programme has been re-launched this season and includes teacher training and a Resource Pack for Teachers that all schools will receive.  The pack aims to ensure that the Foundation has a lasting impact on school sport and aims to get kids playing football in more structured and progressive way.

Something to Chew on: Fitness, Food and Football:

Healthy eating and football activities for 7-8 year olds at various schools within Manchester.

Fitness, Food and Football:

The Foundation recognises how important it is for young people to make healthy lifestyle choices and develop into responsible citizens. We are therefore in the process of developing a new range of Key Stage 2 resources aimed at giving children an understanding of healthy eating and healthy lifestyles.

These resources will be developed in partnership with the Food Standards Agency and Salford City Council with funding from the Premier League/PFA Community Fund.  The programme will be piloted in primary schools in Salford and rolled out across Trafford and Manchester over three years.

This work will enhance curriculum delivery in schools and provide teachers with a selection of material to draw upon. The work will benefit schools and their local communities through the Every Child Matters Agenda by:

  • improving young people's understanding of what constitutes healthy eating and a healthy diet

  • increase young people's knowledge of food safety

  • increase young people's uptake of physical activity.

Each school receives resource packs and workbooks, providing both teachers and pupils with interesting and exciting ways of living a healthier life.
