newcastle united foundation

Newcastle United Foundation was established in November 2007. It builds on the Club’s existing community work and aims to use the local passion for football to encourage learning and promote healthy lifestyles that will make a real difference to the lives of children, young people and families in the North East.

Its strategic aims are:

  • To promote active and healthy lifestyles, particularly in disadvantaged communities.

  • To inspire children to learn and help young people reach their potential.

  • To engage young people in constructive activities that build safe, strong communities.

  • To promote equality and value diversity

Current projects include Match Fit, Kickz and Playing for Success.

Match Fit

Newcastle United Foundation are delivering football coaching sessions alongside fitness and healthy eating classes at 10 schools in the east of Newcastle.

Each school will host a road show involving all of the pupils and teachers. This is then followed up with six weeks of football, diet and fitness sessions for 30 children from each school.

Children who complete the six week programme and take part in other activity will receive rewards such as a Match Day experience at St James Park.

This project was launched in April 2008 at St Vincent's Primary School, Newcastle and it was attended by Kevin Keegan.
