Wigan Athletic AFC aim to involve as many people as possible in football and multi sports through the Community Trust Scheme

They coach over 700 children a week throughout Wigan and the surrounding areas, including Ormskirk, St Helens and Rainford, promoting Wigan Athletic Football Club and football itself.

Programme activity includes in-school and after-school coaching sessions delivering multi sport activities, Saturday morning coaching clubs, half term soccer schools, disability football, Kickz activity and the Premier League Schools Tournament.

Health and Well-Being Girls Project:

This project for teenage girls combines both physical activity and educational work shops.

It is delivered at 10 high schools within the Wigan area throughout the school year.

Girls receive support to help improve their fitness levels, increase their participation in a variety of sports, and enhance their knowledge in relation to nutrition, smoking, alcohol, drugs, relationships and fitness.

This project was launched on 8 April 2008.

For more information about how to get involved please contact: Philip Johnson on wactgirlshwb@live.co.uk

Latics Literacy Club:

This project works with 16 primary schools in Wigan to help children improve their motivation for learning and increase their reading and writing skills.

Children are encouraged to build up a portfolio of books they have read, recommended by the Premier League Reading Stars project.

Sessions include both classroom lessons and sport activity. Participants also have the chance to receive free match tickets and attend the National Football Museum and Wigan JJB Stadium tours.

Wigan Athletic Community Trust held a Places for Player ( in association with the Premier League's Creating Chances initiative) event on the 4th of November 2008 at a Latics Literacy project. The event was attended by Wigan Athletic FC players: Kevin Kilbane and Emmerson Boyce.
