Barclays says Thank You to Nacro

It was a day out to remember for a community group as they were invited to meet Stoke City manager Mark Hughes and Jonathan Walters on Monday (October 21) as Barclays Premier League title sponsor Barclays thanked hard-working staff and their students from Nacro for their commitment to the local community.

The group had the privilege of meeting Hughes and Walters at Stoke’s training ground to quiz them on life in the Barclays Premier League in an exclusive Q&A session. They also got their boots on to take part in a special training session with Potters coaches.

Nacro in Stoke provides young people with the skills, qualifications and advice they need to get into college or work as well as facilitating football for the students to learn the values of sport.

The group was chosen by Barclays because of their hard work with young people in the Stoke area. This season, Barclays is identifying community groups to visit each Barclays Premier League club as part of its campaign to thank fans and community heroes.

David Wheldon, Managing Director of Brand, Reputation and Citizenship at Barclays, commented: “This season Barclays is saying thank you to community heroes across the UK, who help make the Barclays Premier League what it is today. We invited the staff and some of their students from Nacro to a special morning at Stoke City as a thank you for all their hard work in the community.”

Speaking about the visit, Nacro’s Chris Eaton said: “Most of the students come from challenging backgrounds and for all of them it was a once in a lifetime chance to do something like this. The abiding memory for me was at lunchtime when the lads sat awestruck at the realisation that they were eating with their heroes. As one of the young men said: ‘Today was unforgettable’. Thank you to Barclays for inviting us to take part in such a great opportunity.”
