Tuesday 6 March 2012, saw the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson and the Minister for Sport, Hugh Robertson MP open the Europa Centre, the new sports hub in Bexley.

The new centre is a community multi-sports hub consisting of a unique mix of sports; gymnastics, boxing and weightlifting as the lead sports with martial arts and dance as well. The new centre will allow each of the main sports proper space to manage their programmes and ultimately develop talent.

Zoe Smith, the British Weightlifter who is hoping to qualify for the 2012 Olympic Games has been training at the site since she was 12 years old.

The opening ceremony was centred around the demonstrations of the various activities that take place at the site including; kickboxing, martial arts, gymnastics and dance, showing the high standard and talent of the participants that train at the site.

The new Europa Centre will become a London 2012 Games Time Training Venue for both Olympic and Paralympic Volleyball squads this summer.
